Besides the normal schedule there are other activities the children participate in as a class.
Bible Stories and Devotions
Being a Lutheran preschool we share Bible stories with the children each week. The Bible stories run in themes including the Ten commandments, Creation, Christmas and Easter. A Bible story sheet is sent home each week.
Once a month all the children go to the front of the church to have a devotion with one of the pastors. These devotions are often interactive and share the good news of God’s love in Jesus.
Field Trips
At least twice a year we go on field trips so the children can learn in different settings. In the winter we go to the public library. The children get a tour of the library including a “behind-the-scene” look at the activities of the librarians.
In the spring we take a trip to Forest and Floral Garden Center. There the children learn more about plants, seeds and how things grow. We even get to dig in the dirt.
Other field trips we have taken are to Itasca State Park and the the Park Rapids Airport.
Class Guests
Every year we have the firefighters come into the classroom to teach about fire safety. The kids get to see the gear close up and climb on the fire truck.
Sometimes we have parents come in to the classroom to share their special knowledge.
Parties
We like to celebrate fun things at ABC. Each fall we have a Fall Festival outside. The kids get to run an obstacle course, stuff a scarecrow and take a hay ride around the property. Often times they get to visit the “pumpkin patch” as well.
Every Valentines we have some sort of Hearty Party. We get our healthy hearts pumping with activities and share valentines with our friends.
In Winter Olympic years we also do our own version of the Olympics, included indoor ice skating!
Graduation Day!
We celebrate the hard work of the children with a program for moms and dads. Every spring we hold a pot luck and closing program for the the younger children and a graduation ceremony and ice cream social for the older children.
